Brands are Belief Systems

primalbrandingHello everyone and welcome to our first blog entry! It's been a long time coming, so thank you for your patients.

I recently started reading a book called Primal Branding by Patrick Hanlon. He's the founder and CEO of Thinktopia. It's been such a great book to read so far. Patrick causes you think again about branding and what's behind the branding of your business. In chapter one he discusses his discovery on the question, "Why do some products mean something to us while other products do not?" So he writes, "Perhaps the most surprising discovery of all was that while most companies try to communicate a single brand message to their audiences, there are in fact seven brand messages that must be delivered to create preferential brand appeal." Those seven assets are: "the creation story"; "the creed"; "the icons"; "the rituals"; "the pagans"; "the sacred words"; and "the leader". Brands are belief systems!

Over the next several weeks I'm going to walk you though each of the seven branding messages. I believe that these branding concepts will help you and your business acheive your goals of marketing your product or service to your tarket market.
